“The dichotomies of life make up the grid of the universe.”

Interconnectivity, network, connections, web, links are all words that are used in various contexts, primarily in technology, but they all stem from society, from human connection, which then leads to a plethora of other options, degrees away from humanity, but with the human at its base. All we do stems from us, there is an impossibility of being other than ourselves. Art and art speech fully analyse and dissect these connections; it is a mirror/reflection of society as a whole. A small filter that reflects in society what is valued, intriguing, desired, used, abused, sold, and so on. Gridlines strives to show a microcosm of these relationships/views, what connects, what repels, what opposes, and whether or not they fit together. All of these questions arise when so many works in the same format are brought together and organised/displayed in what appears to be a thoughtful/rational way. It is not automatism; things do not emerge from the subconscious; rather, it is a synthesis of different modes of thought and approaches to artistic practise. It is controlled chaos. It is not a "between the lines" à la Lewitt*, but rather about the lines themselves, the lines that comprise these artistic approaches and personal ideas that mirror human interaction. However, because it is a controlled approach, with limitations on work size and medium, it is only a partial reflection, a sample, as everything we do and see is just a part of a larger, more complex whole that we can only try to comprehend. An exhibition with 6 artists, each presenting a panel of works. The individual is brought forth through the collective and the collective is composed by the individual and is more than the sum of its parts.
