Begrüßung und Einführung: Dr. Sabine Ziegenrücker, Leiterin Fachbereich Kunst und Geschichte

Eine Ausstellung über die Unmöglichkeit, ausschließlich man selbst zu sein. Was bedeutet das? Das Werk ist ein Ausdruck des Selbst und der Art und Weise, wie sich das Selbst durch seine Umgebung bewegt. Daher zeigt das Werk eines Künstlers, einer Künstlerin die Besonderheiten der Persönlichkeit und hier stellt sich eine Frage: Wie stark wird das Werk durch die Entscheidungen des Kunstschaffenden geprägt? Wahrscheinlich weniger, als wir denken. In welchem Verhältnis stehen bewusste, kontrollierte Entscheidungen und zufällige oder materialimmanente Prozesse beim künstlerischen Arbeiten? Welchen Einfluss haben der Ausstellungsraum und das soziale Umfeld auf die jeweiligen Arbeiten? Welche Dialoge zwischen dem Künstler, der Künstlerin, den Materialien und der Umgebung entstehen beim künstlerischen Arbeiten? Die Arbeiten dieser Ausstellung loten diese Fragen aus.

An exhibition about the impossibility of being yourself. What does that mean? The work is an expression of the self and the way in which the self moves through its environment. Therefore, the work of an artist shows the particularities of the personality and here a question arises: how much is the work characterised by the choices of the artist? Probably less than we think. What is the relationship between conscious, controlled decisions and random or material-inherent processes in artistic work? What influence do the exhibition space and the social environment have on the respective works? What dialogues arise between the artist, the materials and the environment during the artistic process? The works in this exhibition explore these questions.
